Type of poem: Ġazal (poetry on love) in Mutaqārib metre
Name of poet: unknown; found in Mīzān Darj of Nawbatu l-Istihlāl

Era: 8th-15th century
A gazelle rose divinely in her beauty upon the sky
she outshines the full moon on a dark, starless night
She increases the sun's splendour with her beauty
her beautiful radiance and grace of perfection
Her stature speaks of[1] her dark spear-like nose
and her fine shining teeth, her elegant long neck, and her mark of beauty
"May your longing take me captive!", I said unto her
Be gentle with me, my princess of beauty
may I attain your companionship, my hope?
so that my anguish may depart, and she said: you shall attain
